A PC exchange platform that reduces e-waste
Using circular economy principles in Brazil
Toward a New Era of Shared Corporate Responsibility
Our commitment to positive global impact is embedded in our purpose to create technology that enriches the life of every person on Earth. By embracing a circular economy, we make computers more accessible while reducing e-waste. We are raising the bar to reach our goal of ensuring equal access to a more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable world, enabled through technology and our collective actions.
Intel is working to protect the Earth’s natural resources, which are becoming depleted at current rates of extraction. In Brazil, for example, only about 1% of electronic waste is recycled. E-waste pollutes soil and water and adds to carbon emissions. Our solution is to use a “circular economy” in our supply chain logistics. The model aims to minimize waste and maximize the use of resources through reuse, repair, refurbishment, and recycling.
Recicla PC is a PC exchange platform developed by Brazilian start-up Circular Brain and sponsored by Intel Brazil. Using circular economy principles, people can recycle their used computers in exchange for a discount on a new one. This process gives PCs longer lifespans and ensures proper disposal.
With more than 12,000 drop-off locations, the process aims to be as convenient as possible: simply print the return label and receive a discount for a new computer in a matter of days. Recicla PC plans to expand and scale the program globally. Partnering with Intel has helped Recicla PC succeed while contributing to Intel’s ongoing RISE strategy, which advocates for corporate responsibility in sustainability.
