Summary:
There is a potential security vulnerability related to the improper generation of RSA encryption keys in EPSD Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) firmware. Intel is releasing updated versions of the BMC firmware to mitigate the potential vulnerability.
Description:
There is a potential security vulnerability related to the improper generation of RSA encryption keys in EPSD Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) firmware. This potential vulnerability entails an attacker who might intercept on-going communication between the BMC web-server and user (active man-in-the-middle), and cause a temporary denial of service, after obtaining the private key. Intel is releasing updated versions of the BMC FW to mitigate the potential vulnerability. In brief, the technical improvements include modifying the random number generation mechanism to avoid factorable RSA public keys. As of the date of this advisory, Intel is not aware of any active exploits of this potential vulnerability.
