Backpressure Definition

For Platform Designer Avalon^® interfaces, backpressure is a mechanism by which a receiving interface signals a sending interface to stop sending data, typically when its FIFOs are full or when there is congestion on the connected output port. For Avalon^® streaming interfaces, a sink signals a source to stop sending data by de-asserting the ready signal. For Avalon^® memory-mapped interfaces, an agent signals a host by asserting waitrequest.
