Board thermal modeling

Note:

Board thermal modeling settings are used by the PowerPlay® Power Analyzer. These settings do not affect timing analysis.

The following circuit board thermal modeling settings are available for supported device families:

  • Board thermal model— Allows you to choose from a conservative board thermal model, a custom board thermal model, or, for some members of a device family, a typical board thermal model.

  • Junction-to-board— Allows you to specify the junction-to-board thermal resistance in degrees Celsius per watt, if you specified Custom in the Board thermal model list.

  • Board temperature— Displays the board temperature in degrees Celsius. If you specified Custom or Typical in the Board thermal model list, allows you to specify the board temperature in degrees Celsius.
Note:

If a specified ambient or junction temperature is above the allowable junction temperature range for the device, a warning message appears and the Quartus® Prime software uses the maximum allowable temperature in power analysis; if a specified ambient or junction temperature is below the allowable junction temperature range for the device, a warning message appears and the Quartus® Prime software uses the minimum allowable temperature in power analysis.

If the specified board temperature is outside the user-specified junction temperature range but within the allowable junction temperature range for the device, the Quartus® Prime software uses the specified board temperature and a warning appears in the Messages window informing you that the board temperature is outside the range you specified in Junction temperature range.
