embedded cell (EC) Definition

A memory element that exists in the RAM of supported device (Cyclone series, MAX II, MAX V, and Stratix series) families. Embedded cells can implement RAM, ROM, FIFO, or combinational logic.

In Stratix V devices, the embedded cells are part of the M20K memory blocks. In Stratix IV devices, the embedded cells are part of the M9K and M144K memory blocks. In MAX II, and MAX V devices, the embedded cells are part of the M4K memory blocks. In Cyclone IV devices, the embedded cells are part of the M9K memory blocks. For more details on these memory blocks, see the specific glossary definitions.

Embedded cells have "numbers" of the following format for the following devices:

EC_X <number> _Y <number> _N <number>

EC_X <number>

The column number that contains the M-RAM, or M4K, or M512, or M9K, M20K, or M144K memory block that contains the embedded cell.

Y<number>

The row number that contains the M-RAM, or M4K, or M512, M20K, or M9K, or M144K memory block that contains the embedded cell.

N<number>

The embedded cell number.
