Design Partitions Window

You open this window by clicking Assignments > Design Partitions Window.

Displays the properties of design partitions currently defined in a design, as well as recommendations from the Incremental Compilation Advisor. You can right-click one or multiple partitions to rename, delete, or specify properties.

The Quartus® Prime Standard Edition software incremental compilation feature allows you to partition a design along hierarchical boundaries. The Quartus® Prime Standard Edition software separately synthesizes and fits each design partition and then merges the partitions into a complete netlist for subsequent stages of the incremental compilation flow. When recompiling your design, you can choose the level of results preservation by choosing a Netlist Type of Source, Post-Synthesis, Post-Fit, or Empty for each partition. Setting the Netlist Type directs the Compiler to skip compilation of a partition in subsequent compilation, and to use previous compilation results when they are available.

For a design partition that is developed independently by another team member and is not yet part of the top-level design, or for a partition with undeveloped code, you can set the Netlist Type to Empty, which directs the Compiler to skip the compilation of that partition and use an empty netlist in its place, with virtual pins for the empty partition boundaries.

You can also choose the amount of information you want the Fitter to preserve for netlist atoms and their placement and routing with Fitter Preservation settings.

Some columns in the Design Partitions window are not visible by default. To add or remove a column, right-click in the column header, and then click the column header that you want to add or remove. When you move your mouse over a column header, the Quartus® Prime Standard Edition software displays information about the available settings for the selected column.
