Global Research Centers

Intel Labs sponsors science and technology centers at universities worldwide to foster collaboration and development of new technologies.

Research Center Description
Atomic Monolayer 2D PMOS The center is focused on efforts to reach FEOL PMOS performance targets with 2D TMD channel materials. Advancements are needed in 2D PMOS material quality, 2D PMOS contact and doping schemes, and basic 2D defect meteorology that is predictive of device performance.
Center of Ferro-Electrics for Energy Efficiency The COFEEE center focus is to explore material/structure solutions and methods of fabrication towards realization of <0.2V switching, energy efficient (EE) ferroelectric FET (FEFET). Low voltage switching FEFET enable low-voltage logic which is necessary for EE and not achieved in existing FEFET technology, which switch at >1.8V.
Crypto Frontiers Research Center Intel Labs’ new collaborative, multi-university Crypto Frontiers Research Center will develop cryptographic technologies for future device, edge, and cloud architectures.
Efficiency for very large AI Models This center focuses on developing HW-aware efficient models, training/inference methods and middleware that will be integrated as part of Intel HW products.
FEINMAN: 2.0  Super Energy Efficient Devices enabled by Quantum Materials The center's focus is on the next generation of the MESO device that will enable its full experimental realization at room temperature with the energy efficiency (EE) indicated by fundamental analysis and demonstrable cascadabilty.
Fluorite-based Ferroelectric and Anti-Ferroelectric Memory Devices for Embedded Applications The Center for Fluorite Ferroelectrics seeks to accelerate performance and efficiency of embedded memory by furthering the understanding and control of fundamental material and process parameters influencing the growth and properties of ferroelectric HZO-based device stacks with potential application in Deep Learning, High Performance Computing, and Network Packet Processing.
Future of Graphics and Media Program Intel and Saarland are supporting innovative research projects in computer science with seven research projects in the Future of Graphics and Media program. This center will focus on data representation/compression and compute complexity.
Heterogeneous Integration Platforms Research Center for 2.5D/3D Systems HW/SW Co-design Techniques for Multi-objective Optimization of Heterogeneous 2.5D/3D Chiplets (CHIMP)
High Contrast, Low Noise Resist Design for High NA EUV Patterning  The focus of this center is to advance Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) resist materials for future high NA EUV lithography.  New patterning materials and processes will be designed to exhibit both high contrast and low chemical variability where synthesis, thin film characterization and mechanistic understanding of the entire lithography process will be carried out in close association.
INRC: Intel Neuromorphic Research Community  An ecosystem of academic groups, government labs, research institutions, and companies around the world working with Intel to further neuromorphic computing and develop innovative AI applications.
Integrated Photonics for Data Centers Interconnects The center’s mission is to accelerate optical input/output (I/O) technology innovation in performance scaling and integration with a specific focus on photonics technology and devices, CMOS circuits and link architecture, and package integration and fiber coupling.
Intel Semiconductor Education & Research Program for Ohio The program will fund collaborative proposals led by the University of Cincinnati, Central State University, Columbus State Community College, Kent State University, Lorain County Community College, Ohio University and two from The Ohio State University.
Next-Generation Heterogeneous 3D FPGAs for In-Network Computing The Intel/VMware Crossroads 3D-FPGA Academic Research Center is developing the Crossroads 3D-FPGA as a new central fixture component on future server motherboards, connecting all server endpoints (network, storage, memory, CPU) intelligently.
Private AI Collaborative Research Institute  Intel, in collaboration with Avast and Borsetta, launched the Private AI Collaborative Research Institute to advance and develop technologies in privacy and trust for decentralized AI.
RARE: Resilient Architectures and Robust Electronics Multi-university research center will focus on assessing and improving the resiliency, reliability, and security of Intel® hardware and software, including the security of Intel® silicon integrated circuits. In addition, all research will be made public to the general semiconductor industry.
Transformative Hardware for Artificial Intelligence  This center focuses on exploring hardware for non-traditional computing for artificial intelligence workloads. AI computing requirements are growing exponentially and will become bottlenecked by hardware limitations in required energy, storage, and bandwidth.
Transformative Server Architecture This center will explore CPU-centric server improvements in performance and efficiency
comprehending heterogeneous resources including Cores, NVMs, GPUs and Accelerators
